Clingy Tortoiseshell Cat Insists on Joining Mom in the BathroomCandace

Cats are known for their strong-willed independence, but some of these funny felines prefer to live life in the literal shadow of their humans. Of my three cats, it’s my Tortie girl whose distinctly quirky personality fits every stereotype out there. If you ask other Tortie parents, they’ll likely have a similar story.
For instance, one Tortoiseshell cat named Queenie could be my kitty’s twin by the way she insists on following Mom wherever she goes, including the bathroom, and she’s not sorry one bit.
Clearly this Tortoiseshell gal is Mom’s biggest fan and thought offering her security guard duties would help move things along. Cats notoriously dislike closed doors, especially when we’re on the other side, but add that Tortie twist, and it’s magnified! Queenie is an everyday cutie, and this is too relatable.
While there’s no evidence to back up why most Tortoiseshell cats march to their own drum, I’ve yet to come across pet parents with a different story, and many of this girl’s fans chimed in to say as much.

“I get a 20-minute yapping-to after every single shower. My Tortie does NOT approve of my daily wettings,” one person commented. “Stop, my Tortie trills the same way! Specifically when she tries to lead us to her automatic pet feeder,” another added. “Yes, my Tortie girl gets upset if you close the bathroom door,” another wrote.
It really is a universal experience when you have one of these beautiful, chatty, downright odd cats! This kitty mom doesn’t only have Queenie, but also her Tortie pal, Dutchie—double the trouble!
The Tortoiseshell Personality
Tortoiseshell refers to the coat color and pattern, so it isn’t a breed itself, but it’s interesting that nearly everyone who’s had one of these funny kitties shares a similar experience. They all seem to be yappy and spunky, but they’re only social on their terms.
Described as curious, weird (and proud of it), and affectionate, Queenie joining Mom in the bathroom is simply doing her duty as a Tortie!
