Trevor Connelly scored on the power play early in the second period, but Artemi Panarin answered with a power-play goal of his own, leaving Vegas and the Los Angeles Kings tied 1-1 through two periods Saturday night at T-Mobile Arena.

Vegas led 23-13 in shots through 40 minutes. Darcy Kuemper made 22 saves for Los Angeles, while Carter Hart stopped 12 shots for the Golden Knights.

The evening began with members of the Original Misfits taking part in Fan Fest before joining former coach Gerard Gallant on The Fortress. Fan favorite Ryan Reaves cranked the siren as Vegas celebrated the ninth anniversary of its first home game during the franchise's 10th season.

Once the puck dropped, Hart and Kuemper delivered early highlights, making big saves to keep the first period scoreless. Vegas also navigated overlapping penalties from Brayden McNabb and Nic Dowd , giving Los Angeles an extended two-man advantage.

Connelly broke through at 2:37 of the second period after Mitch Marner moved the puck down to Mark Stone , who tapped it across the crease for the rookie to punch home for his second goal of the season.

Vegas entered the night 5-for-20 on the power play against the NHL's second-worst penalty kill. Connelly's goal left Los Angeles with six power-play goals allowed on eight road opportunities.

Connelly became the third Golden Knight to score on the man advantage this season, joining Tomas Hertl and Victor Olofsson.

Stone's assist extended his point streak to four games, giving the captain points in five of Vegas' first six contests. He now has 35 points in 36 career games against Los Angeles.

Panarin tied the game at 6:21 of the second with Jeremy Lauzon serving a tripping penalty. Adrian Kempe and Brandt Clarke assisted on Panarin's third goal of the season, which extended his point streak against Vegas to six games.

Connelly and Marc Gatcomb each had five shots through two periods to lead Vegas. Panarin paced Los Angeles with four.

The Kings also marked two milestones. Drew Doughty played in his 1,283rd NHL game, tying Ken Daneyko for 24th among defensemen. Peter Laviolette coached his 1,598th game, matching Ken Hitchcock for eighth all-time.

This is a developing story and will be updated following the game with the final result and postgame reaction.
